How do I take part?
Participation in the Lung Health Check pilot study is by invitation only.
If you are a member of a participating Centric Health GP practice (click here to view selected practices) and aged between 55-74 years you will receive a text message followed by a letter of invitation to take part in the study. You will also get a leaflet with more details of the process.
After that one of our team members will ring you at a specified date and time. They will ask you some questions about your medical and smoking history. This is called pre-screening. These question will help to see if a Lung Health Check, including a low dose CT scan of your chest is right for you. If so, we will arrange an appointment for you at our mobile unit at a specific date and time.
If you are not called to the mobile unit for a Lung Health Check, this will be discussed with you on your telephone appointment.
You do not have to take part in this study if you don’t want to – the letter will explain how to opt out.
Key things to note about your Lung Health Check
- We have partnered with Centric Health GP practices in North Dublin and North East region of Ireland (See list below) for this study. You will only be invited to participate if you are between 55-74 years of age and registered with one of these practices.
- As part of the pre-screening phone call, you will be asked some questions about your medical and smoking history. We use these questions to calculate a Risk Score. This will helps is to determine if a Lung Health Check appointment is right for you.
- If a Lung Health Check is right for you based on your Risk Score then we will arrange an appointment for you at our mobile unit.
- If the Lung Health Check is not right for (usually because you are at low risk) we will inform you and your GP via letter
