What is the Lung Health Check
This clinical trial is run by Beaumont Hospital and the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences and funded by the Irish Cancer Society. This trial is in collaboration with selected Centric Health GP practices in North Dublin and the North East Region of Ireland.

What is the aim of Lung Health Check?
The aim of the Lung Health Check is to invite people with a higher risk of developing lung problems for an assessment. This assessment includes some breathing tests and a low dose CT scan of the chest in a mobile unit in the community.
The outcome of Lung Health Check will help inform the evaluation by the National Screening Advisory Committee (NSAC) of the case for a future national lung cancer screening programme in Ireland.

Do I need a check?
Why should I have a Lung Health Check?
People who smoke, or have smoked, in the past are at higher risk of developing problems with their lungs, including lung cancer. Lung cancer, at its early stages, generally does not cause any symptoms so often people won’t know that there may be an issue. When lung conditions, including lung cancer, are identified earlier it is much easier to treat.
Carrying out a Lung Health Check that includes a low dose CT Scan (LDCT scan) can identify problems in the lungs, including lung cancer, much earlier, even before symptoms develop.
Checking for a disease or condition before symptoms develop is called screening.
